Soccer opens season at Luther

The 2011 season didn't get off to quite the start the Wildcats had hoped for, as they lost their opening game to Luther College by a score of 6-1.  Junior Brianna Coulter made her presence felt in her first game as a Wildcat, scoring the lone goal.

Luther was picked to finish second in the always competitive IIAC in their preseason coaches poll, and they immediately showed why against St. Kate's.  Luther's Kendra Ledel scored a goal only three minutes into the game, on her way to a hat trick.  The Wildcat defense faced a tough test, as the Norse tallied 21 shots.

The Wildcat offense showed flashes of ability, most notably on Coulters goal in the 61st minute, but could not keep pace with the more experienced Norse.  They tallied 11 shots on the night.

The Wildcats will not have long to dwell on this loss, as they return to the field on Saturday to host the opening game of the Wildcat Invitational at 11 am.
