On Friday evening the Wildcats headed across the cities to Augsburg College, to take on their first of two conference opponents on the weekend. The Auggies took full advantage of their home court and cheering fans to defeat the Wildcats in straight sets 3-0. Augsburg won by scores of 25-22, 25-23, 25-23. At 4-1, the Auggies are tied for first in the MIAC, while the Wildcats' conference mark of 2-3 has them in the middle of the MIAC pack.
Augsburg stormed out to the lead in the first game, and although the Wildcats came back, they were unable to overcome their early deficit. The second game was a back and forth affair, with almost a dozen lead changes, before Augsburg eventually emerged on top. The Wildcats seemed poised to win the third set and perhaps shift the momentum of the match, but the Auggies were able to erase the three-point lead and win another close set to finish out the victory.
The Wildcats will look to even their conference record at home on Saturday against St. Thomas at 3 pm.
