The Gustavus volleyball team got a victory over St. Kate's on Wednesday night to help punch their ticket into the 2011 MIAC playoffs, while the loss eliminated the Wildcats from postseason play. Although the teams came into the match within a few spots of one another in the MIAC rankings, the Gusties were able to capitalize on their home court advantage for a 3-0 victory.
The Wildcats couldn't quite pull out a set victory, with the Gusties winning 25-19, 25-21, 25-18. While mistakes have been the downfall of this Wildcat squad in several matches this year, they played relatively mistake free volleyball tonight, with only 14 attack errors. Unfortunately, the Gusties had even fewer miscues, with an impressive total of 11 attack errors. Both teams served well, with each squad picking up seven aces.
Stephanie Meschke had 10 kills to lead the team on offense, while
Marie O'Neil chipped in with three aces.
Karsee Knutson had two aces to go along with nine set assists.
Nicole Pothen had 17 digs.
The Wildcats will play at Macalester on Saturday at 3 PM and hope to end their 2011 campaign with a win.
