Volleyball falls to Bethel at Central Tournament

Stephanie Meschke
The Wildcats finished off their weekend at the Central Tournament by squaring off against conference foe Bethel on Saturday morning. Ordinarily reaching 15 points in the deciding fifth set is enough to win, but the Wildcats were edged 2-3 by Bethel in an epic five-set match.  St. Kate's fell by the score of 25-19, 25-22, 23-25, 18-25, 15-17.  Stephanie Meschke was named to the All-Touranment team.

Meschke proved to be the most consistant Wildcat attacker on the weekend, compiling 14, 13, and 13 kills in the teams three matches.  Against Bethel, she also had three aces, three solo blocks, and two block assists.  This is Meschke's first all-tournament honor this season.

Meschke got plenty of help from Brittni Wangerin on Saturday.  Wangerin had 23 of the teams' 57 total kills and also added 20 digs.  Despite the teams' 0-3 record on the weekend, Coach Phelps felt that it was a good weekend for the team.  "We saw some great things out there this weekend and much more consistant play out of the team.  We played good volleyball and just ran into some tough opponents."
