On day two of the Sugar Loaf Classic, the Wildcats picked up one win and one loss, defeating Wartburg 3-1 and losing to Loras 0-3. The win was the first of the season for the Wildcats and new head coach
Corey Phelps. The Wildcats went 1-3 for the tournament, while Loras was 3-1 and Wartburg was 2-2.
The morning started with the Wildcats taking on Loras, and the team could not get any momentum going, dropping in three sets, 17-25, 19-25, 19-25.
Kayla Sis continued her strong offensive play, leading the team with 11 kills and adding eight digs.
Racquel Reker and
Stephanie Meschke both made their mark on the offensive side, as each had six kills.
The Wildcats returned to the court in the afternoon with renewed energy. Play went back and forth in the first set, with neither team able to outdistance the other. The Wildcats finally prevailed 27-25 and used the momentum to take the second set 25-15. After dropping the third set 20-25, the Wildcats closed out the win 25-20. Brittini Wangarin had a team high 16 kills and had 19 digs.
Nicole Neumann had 26 digs and Sis added 14 kills and 18 digs.
Neumann was named to the all-tournament team for her stellar play over the weekend. She collected 109 digs in four matches, including 42 against St. Scholastica.
The team heads to UW Stout on September 8th for thier next contest.
