After ten long, hard-fought sets of volleyball Friday evening, the Wildcats came away with nothing to show for it, dropping two five-set matches at the Holiday InnVitational. St. Scholastica defeated the Wildcats 25-7, 25-27, 23-25, 25-15, 17-15 and St. Ben's posted a 22-25, 23-25, 25-23, 25-12, 15-5 victory. With the losses, the Wildcats fall to 3-9 on the season.
Meeting St. Scholastica for the second time this season, the Wildcats showed the improvement they have made since the last time these teams faced off, pushing St. Scholastica to a fifth set and almost coming away with a victory. The Saints needed several extra points to finally put the Wildcats away, taking the fifth set by a score of 17-15.
Trying to put the first match behind them, the Wildcats took control of the St. Ben's match early, earning narrow victories in the first two sets. St. Ben's won a tightly contested third set, before the Wildcats began to run out of steam, and St. Ben's came back to win in five.
Nina Lindquist had 39 set assists and three aces in her second game back.
Callie Teigen had 12 kills and 12 digs,
Kayla Sis added 9 kills and 11 digs, and Marie O'Neil contributed 10 kills.
The Wildcats play St. Olaf and Hamline in day two of action at the tournament.
