Fresh off an exciting upset win over ranked opponent Tufts on Friday evening, the Wildcats returned to the court Saturday to face two tough opponents. Unable to recapture any of Friday's energy, the Wildcats lost to Springfield College 0-3 and to #3 Emory University 0-3. The Wildcats now sit at 2-7 on the season.
In the morning match versus the Pride of Springfield, St. Kate's started the game sluggishly and struggled throughout the match. Perhaps focusing ahead to their afternoon game, the Wildcats never got comfortable on the court and dropped in straight sets 15-25, 12-25, 19-25.
Their struggles continued into the early afternoon, as #3 Emory came into the game having not dropped a set through the entire tournament. Emory easily won the first two sets 25-7 and 25-14, but the Wildcats rallied and almost took the third set off Emory, with the Eagles eventually prevailing 25-23. Although their rally was too little too late, the Wildcats were encouraged by the continued strong play of
Nicole Neumann, who had 12 digs in the match.
After a weekend of facing some of the best teams in the nation, the Wildcats will be ready to face MIAC foe Carleton on Wednesday September 15 at 7 pm.
