Volleyball falls to Concordia in opening round of playoffs

The #6 seeded Wildcats gave the #3 seeded Concordia Cobbers everything they had Tuesday evening in Moorhead, but it was not enough to knock off the higher seed, as Concordia prevailed 3-0.  The score was extremely close through the three games, with Concordia winning 25-22, 25-17, 25-21.

Making their first playoff appearance in several seasons, the Wildcats came out with fire and put together a solid team effort in defeat.  The Wildcats were especially strong defensively, as the team totaled 66 digs, including three Wildcats reaching double digits.  Defensive specialist Nicole Neumann led the charge, and her 22 digs helped her reach a career milestone.  Neumann collected 2,008 digs for her career, becoming the only Wildcat ever to surpass the 2,000 dig mark.

Stephanie Meschke added 14 digs, and Brittni Wangerin was a force offensively and defensively, with 19 digs, 9 kills, and 2 aces.  Kayla Sis was the Wildcats key attacker, with 10 kills.  Four other Wildcats each added three kills, as the Wildcats spread the ball around to try and keep Concordia off balance.

Although the Wildcats ended their season with the loss, the team took many positives away from their playoff appearance.  "We played with great heart, just as we did throughout the entire season," said head coach Corey Phelps.  "I could not be more proud of the team and their competitive spirit."

The Wildcats end the year with a 9-20 record, including a 6-5 conference record.
