Soccer falls to Macalester 3-1

Kelsey Nistler
Playing under the lights at Macalester's stadium, the Wildcats scored first but were unable to hold on for the victory, falling 3-1 to the Scots.  Kelsey Nistler scored her fifth goal of the season to put the Wildcats on the board.  St. Kate's now sits at 6-4-1 on the season, 2-3 in the MIAC.  Macalester improved to 7-4 overall, 3-2 in the conference.

The two evenly matched teams battled back and forth in the first half, with both goalies turning away all scoring opportunities.  The Scots held a slight advantage in shots, 8-6, during the first period, as the Wildcats successfully defended all nine of Macalester's corner kicks.

Ten minutes into the second period, St. Kate's broke the scoreless tie as Liesl Wolf found Kelsey Nistler on the left side.  That lead would hold up for much of the half, but with less than 20 minutes remaining the Scots' Emily Bardwell scored the equalizer.  Macalester then went on a scoring run, as Lauryn Gutierrez netted two goals in the next five minutes to put her team ahead for good.

The Wildcats will look to even their record in conference play at Gustavus on Saturday morning at 11.
