The Wildcats closed out day two of the Border Battle in style, beating the University of Dubuque 3-0. In their earlier match against host Loras, the Wildcats fell 0-3, going 1-3 in the tournament overall.
Kayla Sis was named to the All-Tournament team.
Taking the court just 12 hours after their last match ended, the Wildcats never got any momentum going in their 8:00 AM match-up with Loras, falling in three games.
The Duhawks won by a score of 25-15, 25-12, 25-18. Brittni Wangerin led the offensive attack for St. Kate's with nine kills and also had eight digs.
Regrouping for their match against Dubuque, the Wildcats ended the tournament on a high note with their decisive 25-23, 25-20, 25-14 win. Coming together as a team and playing up to their potential, the Wildcats had a .360 hitting percentage and a season high 9 aces and 11 blocks. Wangerin and Stephanie Meschke led the way offensively. Wangerin hit .500 with 18 kills and Meschke had 14 kills while hitting .467. Nicole Neumann had 25 digs in only three sets of play.
Sis earned a nod to the All-Tournament team after consistent play over the weekend. She had 37 kills and a .366 hitting percentage over the four matches, including a high of 15 kills in the match against Coe.
Head coach Corey Phelps was pleased with the afternoon's effort versus Dubuque. "This was a great finish to the tournament for our team. It was important for us to get a win leading into some big conference games this week."
The Wildcats host Bethel University on Wednesday, October 6 at 7 pm.
