The Wildcats headed to Concordia on Saturday hoping to knock off the top seed in the MIAC, but the Cobbers showed why they are tops in the conference with a 2-0 victory. The Cobbers are now 9-2-3 overall (7-1-3 MIAC) and the Wildcats are 6-8-1 (2-6-0 MIAC).
The Wildcat offense never got rolling, thanks in large part to the Cobber defense, who limited the Wildcats to three shots. While the Wildcats held their own on defense, the 11 shots and 6 corner kicks gave the Cobbers too many chances, and they scored the only two goals of the contest in the first half.
The Wildcats regrouped for the second period, matching the Cobbers in midfield play, but they could not erase the 0-2 hole and the game ended with neither team able to notch a goal in the second frame.
Coach Bellis felt the team gained confidence from their play against the conference's top squad; "We took lots of positives from this game and will be that much stronger for our remaining games."
The Wildcats take a short break from competition before hosting St. Olaf on Saturday October 23 at 1 pm.
