In a battle between two top volleyball conferences, the MIAC and the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC), the Wildcats lost to IIAC teams Central and Coe. In the first match, Central downed the Wildcats in straight sets, 25-23, 25-18, and 25-23. In the late match, Coe defeated the Wildcats 3-1 (15-25, 25-17, 25-21, 25-21).
Against Central, the Wildcats kept the games close, but Central came up with big points when they needed them, putting the Wildcats away in straight sets.
Callie Teigen led the Wildcats with 11 kills and
Kayla Sis added 9 kills.
Nicole Neumann had 24 digs to lead the defensive effort.
Coming out for their second match, the Wildcats dominated Coe in the first set, easily winning 25-15. Coe came back to win the second set, and although the Wildcats kept it close, Coe took the next two sets for the win. Sis had a team-high 15 kills, while
Brittni Wangerin added 11 and
Megan Ahlbrecht had 10. Teigen had three service aces and Neumann continued her impressive defense with 32 digs.
The Wildcats return to the court early Saturday morning, facing off against Loras at 8 am before taking on the University of Dubuque at noon.
