Hockey falls to Olaf 5-2

Michaela Michaelson
In a battle of two of the MIAC's top teams, St. Kate's lost 5-2 to St. Olaf in a game that was much closer than the final score would indicate.

The Wildcats scored first as Michaela Michaelson scored her 12th goal of the season at the 10:14 mark in the first period. Cassie Rooney and Kelsey Abrahamson assisted on the goal.

At the 4:42 mark of the second Bridget Braastad scored a short-handed goal to put SCU up 2-0. Kayla Clafton and Aryn Ball assisted on the goals.

St. Olaf answered with a power play goal at the 18:22 mark in the second to shift some of the momentum back their way.

At the 7:26 mark in the third, the Oles tied the game at 2-2. A few minutes later things got even more intense on the ice. After the Oles took a 3-2 lead, the Wildcats scored what they believed to be a game tying goal, but it was waved off by the officials. Then Oles quickly tacked on a another goal against the stunned Wildcats and added an empty netter to make the final score 5-2.

The two teams are now tied with ten points, heading into the series finale at Ridder Arena at 2pm on Sunday.
