Fifth-year Bryana Leverentz was honored with the Choosing Wisely Champion Recognition Award by the American Occupational Therapy Association in Kansas City, Missouri on Saturday, April 22 for her participation in the evidence-based practice project. Leverentz worked with other first-year graduate students on a six-week didactic course and lab to determine the purpose and relevance paired with instruction the evidence-based practice process. She assisted with utilizing case studies to formulate questions and summarize literature guided by Choosing Wisely recommendations. Their findings were disseminated through public, open-access repository called SOPHIA Scholar for the use by practitioners, students, administrators and the public. The Choosing Wisely initiative helps patience’s choose care that is supported by evidence and truly necessary as they promote conversations between patients and clinicians.
