First-year swimmer Maka Chikowero is awarded her first Fleur-de-lis Award for service and leadership. Chikowero founded the MTC Educate A Girl Inc and is member of the UN Generation Equality Youth Task Force which is comprised of adolescent girls’ leader and was also the most recent president of the Rozaria Memorial Trust Girls Club of North America. This past September, Chikowero attended a workshop at the United Nations discussing Generation Equality in France and Mexico. Through that workshop, she prepared to be one of two who spoke at the commemoration of the 10th Anniversary of the International Day of Girls Child at the United Nations. At this event, she called upon heads of the governments to commit to implementation of existing treaties that safeguard children and called for an end to child marriages and demanded peace and security for the girls in conflict regions.
