Greta Sieve has been named Wildcat Athlete of the Week(s) for her performances during the weeks of 5/13 and 5/20.
To pick up the first award, Sieve posted two NCAA qualifying marks at the MIAC outdoor track and field championships.
On day one of the meet Sieve competed in the 10,000 meter run for the first time in her career. She had more than beginners luck as she posted the first of her NCAA provisional qualifying marks when she covered the 6.2 miles, in a steady rain, to finish with a time of 37:04.42. That mark was not only the first NCAA Qualifying time of her career, but earned her MIAC All-Conference honors and set a St. Kate's school record by over eighty seconds.
On day two Sieve returned to the track to turn in an equally impressive performance in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. Greta traversed the 28 barriers and seven water jumps in a time of 11:08.26. Much like her day one performance, Sieve's time was one of the 30 fastest times in the nation this year. Also like day one, Greta's performance earned her MIAC All-Conference honors and set a St. Kate's school record.
As an encore for the season, one week later Sieve traveled to an NCAA Last Chance meet and shaved an additional 15 seconds off of her 3000m steeplechase time. Her new St. Kate's record time of 10:53.40 also made her the first runner in St. Kate's school history to qualify for the NCAA Division III National Championships.
At the NCAA meet in Marietta Ohio, Sieve moved up seven spots from her seeded position to place 12th in the meet with a time of 10:56.78.
Greta is the daughter of Jeffrey and Susan. She is an Occupational Therapy Major at St. Kate's.
