St. Kate's hockey defenseman Bridget Braastad, Kayla Clafton, Katie Lawler and Meghan Lange have been named Wildcat Athletes of the Week for their efforts against Gustavus Adolphus College this past weekend.

Facing the number one team in the nation, the four Wildcats defenders did not back down from the challenge and helped hold the high powered Gusties in check. The result was the Wildcats most competitive series against the perennial nationally ranked Gustavus squad. 

When playing at even strength the Wildcats and Gusties ended the weekend series tied 2-2, and entered the third period tied for the first time in the history of the series. Also demonstrating the drastically improved play is the fact that one year ago the Gusties fired 74 shots at Wildcat goaltender Mel Gerten in one game. This time around the new group of defenders limited Gustavus to 39 and 35 shots for the weekend series.

The team returns to the ice on Friday and Saturday, February 13 and 14, for a series against Bethel University.
