ST. PAUL, MINN. – It’s rare for an athlete to make history twice in one week. For St. Catherine University basketball’s LaShay Holt (Minneapolis, Minn. / Humboldt), that was just another Wednesday. The senior guard broke the school records for career points and career rebounds in the first quarter against Macalester College on Wednesday and helped St. Kate’s go 1-1 in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) play last week. For her performances, Holt has been named Wildcat Athlete of the Week.

Holt’s big week was set up by an outstanding performance on January 28, when the senior scored 26 points and pulled in a career high 18 rebounds in the Wildcats 69-65 win over Augsburg. Those totals set up for a historic night on Wednesday, as Holt entered the game just two points and two rebounds shy of breaking the school records for both career points and career rebounds. Once she got in the game, Holt wasted no time dismantling both of them.  At 3:48 in the first quarter, the senior broke Laura Kalbfell's seven year-old school record for career points. Less than a minute later, she broke Jeanna Spannring's 17-year-old record for career rebounds, making her one of the most successful basketball student-athletes in St. Kate’s history.

Holt’s historic week continued on Saturday, as she helped the Wildcats nearly take down the No. 3 ranked Tommies. Thanks to Holt’s key ball handling skills and defensive play, St. Kate’s lead St. Thomas through the majority of the first half and only trailed by three-points at the end of the third quarter. Unfortunately, the Tommie offense got hot at the end of the fourth, resulting in a 62-53 win over the Wildcats.

After the two games, Holt’s career point total is now at 1415 and she has 777 career rebounds to her name. She currently ranks fifth in the MIAC in points per game (15.3) and is second in rebounds per game (9.3).
