ST. PAUL, MINN. – As far as good weekend’s go, no one may have had a better one than the St. Catherine University golf team. The Wildcats finished second at the DIII Classic in Lake City, Minnesota thanks to a season low two-round score of 635. Leading the way for St. Kate’s was none other than senior golfer Abby Conzemius (Chanhassen, Minn. / Minnetonka). Conzemius was fantastically consistent throughout the tournament and was the top Wildcat individual finisher in the field of 92.  For her performance over the weekend, Conzemius has been named Wildcat Athlete of the Week.

St. Kate’s shot a 319 on the opening day of competition thanks to Conzemius strong day on the course. Despite hitting a double bogey on hole eight, the senior rebounded to finish the day at +7 after shooting an opening round 79. That score was tied for the lowest on the team and put Conzemius within striking distance of another top-10 finish.

Conzemius improved on her day one totals, shooting a low 76 in the second round to finish the tournament at +11 with a score of 155. That was not only the best individual score for the Wildcats but was also the fifth lowest two-day score in program history. She also finished in a tie for 10th place.

In addition to her score, Conzemius also played a large roll in St. Kate’s team finish. The Wildcats needed a birdie on the Par 5 18th in order to move out of a tie for third with Bethel University and into second place. With that on the line, Conzemius hit the green in two shots and two-putted the Par 5 score the clutch birdie the Wildcats needed.

Thanks to Conzemius’ big second day, St. Kate’s finished the tournament with a two-day score of 635, the second lowest two-day score in school history. The Wildcats hope their strong performances will carry over to next weekend when they compete in the College City Challenge. The two-day tournament in Hastings, Minnesota will be St. Kate’s last tournament of the regular season before the team participates in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) October 8-10.
