ST. PAUL, MINN. – It’s been a record breaking season for Megan Pohlmann (Grey Eagle, Minn. / Long Prairie-Grey Eagle) of the St. Catherine University track and field team. The junior broke the school record in the javelin throw early April and then again at the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships May 13-14. However, the best was yet to come for Pohlmann, as she broke the school record in javelin, won the event, and qualified for the NCAA Championships last Thursday in La Crosse, Wisconsin. For her performance, Pohlmann has been named Wildcat Athlete of the Week.

Pohlmann already met qualifying standards for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships before heading to the Last Chance Meet at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. Her 42.52 meter throw at the MIAC Championships was ranked No. 11 in the country and was well beyond the 2015 NCAA qualifying standard of 41.73 meters. However, Pohlmann solidified her spot and moved up the rankings with her throw at La Crosse as she won the event and broke her own school record with a throw of 43.84 meters.

With her win at the Last Chance Meet, Pohlmann easily qualified for the NCAA Championships with the No. 9 throw in Division III.  Her teammate Alyssa Besch (Apple Valley, Minn. / Eastview) also qualified for the NCAA Championship in the javelin throw as well, making them the first Wildcats to qualify for the National Outdoor Meet since Greta Sieve did in 2010.

Pohlmann and Besch will compete on the third and final day of the NCAA Track and Field Championships. Wartburg College will host the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship this year from May 26-28 in Waverly, Iowa. Single day tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for children/students. An all-session pass is $30 for adults and $25 for students. More information can be found on Wartburg Athletics Championship Page.
