ST. PAUL, MINN. – It was a record setting week for St. Catherine University basketball star LaShay Holt. The junior scored her 1000 career point, and had 26 total, in a 60-62 loss at Saint Mary’s University last Wednesday and recorded her seventeenth career double-double Saturday in a 64-61 loss against Augsburg Saturday. For her efforts, Holt has been named Wildcat Athlete of the Week.

After a big game against St. Thomas on January 30, Holt needed just five points to reach 1000. She scored those five points early in the first quarter against Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) co-leaders Saint Mary’s. Holt scored career point 1000 on the second of two free throws, making her just the seventh player in St. Kate’s basketball team history to reach the milestone. Of course, she didn’t stop scoring there. Holt went on to score a team leading 26 points in the two point loss, pulling in nine rebounds, to push her career total in that category to 533.

Holt’s stellar week continued as she recorded her seventeenth career double-double in Saturday’s home loss to Augsburg. Despite a cold first half shooting, Holt scored eight second-half points to help push the Wildcats back into contention. She also pulled in a team leading 12 rebounds in the loss, leading to her sixth double-double of 2015-16 and seventeenth of her career.

At the end of the weekend, Holt’s 1,033 career points rank sevenths on St. Kate’s all-time scoring list. She is also in the record books for career rebounds. Holt recorded her 500 career rebound in early January, when the Wildcats hosted Macalester in the Butler Center. Her career total of 565 is third all-time in program history.
Holt currently leads the Wildcats in points with 300 on the season, points-per-game, and total rebounds. She also is she is second in the MIAC in points-per-game, with an average of 16.7, behind St. Thomas’ Kaitlin Langer.

Holt and the rest of her teammates have three big games coming up this week. They return to the court Monday for a 7 p.m. nonconference game against University of Wisconsin-Superior in the Butler Center. Then, on Wednesday, they return home for a 7 p.m. contest against MIAC foe Saint Benedict. The last game of the week is on the road but still in St. Paul, when St. Kate’s travels to take on Macalester at 3 p.m.
