The St. Catherine University basketball team may be in slump, but junior LaShay Holt (Minneapolis, Minn./Humboldt) has been at the top of her game. This last week, Holt further inked her place in the St. Kate's record books and led the Wildcats in two close losses. For her efforts, she has been named the Wildcat Athlete of the Week.Â
Holt averaged a remarkable 24 points this week after scoring a career-high 33 points in a loss to St. Olaf College Saturday. Her game-high total was also the second-most points scored in a single game by an individual player in St. Kate's history and is the most in a single game this year by a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) player. Even more impressive, Holt set a new program record for 3-pointers made in a game after going 8-of-13 from downtown. She finished the game shooting 55.0 percent from the field.Â
Holt was also impresive in the Wildcats' Wednesday night road loss to Gustavus Adolphus College. She led the team with 15 points after going 5-of-7 from the charity stripe. The Wildcats' leading scorer finished the week with 48 points, eight rebounds, two assists and four steals.Â
This season, Holt is sixth in the MIAC for scoring (15.6 ppg), but ranks second in games against MIAC oponents (16.6 ppg). She also is sixth in rebounds (8.3 per game) and third in steals (2.6 per game).Â
Holt and the remainder of the Wildcats will look to get back on track this week with two road games beginning Wednesday against Concordia College at 7 p.m. in Moorhead, Minnesota. Then, Saturday, the Wildcats will take on Hamline University for a season rematch at 3 p.m. in St. Paul.Â
