The St. Catherine University basketball team has been off to its best start since 2008-09 with five-straight wins to kick off the 2015-16 season. With victories over North Central University and the University of Wisconsin-Stout this week, the Wildcats head into Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) play as one of just three undefeated teams. The Wildcats' hot start has been due in large part to strong play from senior Shauna Horsch (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) who was named the Wildcat Athlete of the Week.

Horsch reached double digits in scoring in both of the Wildcats' victories this week including a team-high 19 points in the last-second victory over UW-Stout Sunday. She started off Tuesday with a 10-point performance in the win over North Central. She collected a team-best five assists as well as four boards and four steals. Sunday, she was even better shooting 3-of-6 from beyond the arc. Horsch also added four more rebounds, four assists and a steal.

This week, Horsch led the team with 14.5 points per game and an impressive 34.5 minutes per game. In each of the last three games Horsch has recorded double digits in scoring and has shot 44.4 percent from 3-point range. This season, Horsch is second on the team in scoring (11.8 ppg) and 19th in the MIAC. She also ranks in the top 25 in four other categories including 3-point shooting percentage (36.0).

Horsch and the rest of the Wildcats will begin a tough MIAC schedule Wednesday against Bethel University – a team the Wildcats upset on opening night a year ago – at 7 p.m. on the road in Arden Hills. Saturday, the Wildcats host Hamline University at 3 p.m. for the MIAC home opener in the Butler Center.
