The St. Catherine University volleyball team won three of its four matches this weekend and narrowly lost a tight Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) contest to Concordia College Thursday. The Wildcats' success was due in large part to senior Amber Zeiher (Le Sueur, Minn./Le Sueur-Henderson) who reached several career milestones this week and earned all-tournament honors. For her big week, she has been named the Wildcat Athlete of the Week.Â
In the Wildcats' MIAC loss, Zeiher tallied four kills and four blocks before helping the squad go 2-0 Friday. In just one set played against Crown College, the senior middle blocker had five kills in just seven attacks. Then, in a thrilling five-set win over Luther, Zeiher recorded a career-high 17 kills to go along with her match-high seven blocks.Â
Saturday, Zeiher continued to be a solid contributor for the Wildcats totalling 10 kills and 10 blocks in a loss to Wartburg College and four-set win over the Unviersity of Wisconsin-Superior.
Zeiher was  extremely efficient for the Wildcats with a .315 hitting percentage on the week in addition to being a huge presence at the net. She recorded 21 total blocks and averaged 1.17 blocks per set. She now has 89 blocks this season and her 1.01 blocks per set ranks third in the MIAC. Zeiher also moves to second all-time at St. Kate's for career blocks with 268.
Zeiher and the remainder of the Wildcats return to MIAC action Wednesday as they travel across town for a 7 p.m. match up against Macalester College in St. Paul. Â
