The St. Catherine University golf team continued its red-hot fall this weekend at the Division III Classic hosted by Carleton College in Lake City, Minnesota, scoring a third-place team finish after dropping 15 strokes Sunday to move ahead of Wartburg College. The Wildcats recorded a 637 (+61) that ranks second all-time at St. Kate's thanks to another record-setting individual performance – this time from first-year Sydney Busker (Detroit Lakes, Minn./Detroit Lakes) who has been named the Wildcat Athlete of the Week.Â
All season long, Busker has been the team's most consistent golfer and this weekend it paid off. She ended the two-day tournament with a score of 152 (+8) that tied teammate Abby Conzemius' record performance from a week ago. Busker's score was also good enough to tie for first place with three other golfers in a field of 92 competitors.Â
On the opening day, Busker carded a career-best 75 (+3) that was tied for the seoncd-best on the day and ranks third-best for 18 holes at St. Kate's. She followed up her Saturday performance with a 77 (+5) to earn her share of the top spot in the standings and her first top-10 finish of the year.
With her performance this weekend, Busker now leads the Wildcats this season with a 78.2 (+6) strokes per round average. Busker has scored below 80 in five of her six rounds this season.Â
Busker and the Wildcats return to action this weekend for their final competition before the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Championships beginning Oct. 2. The Wildcats remain local Saturday and Sunday playing in the College City Challenge at Bellwood Oaks Golf Club in Hastings, Minnesota. Â
