The St. Catherine University golf team had a weekend to remember shattering multiple program records en route to a fourth-place finish at the Wartburg College Fall Invite in Waverly, Iowa, Sunday. Led by record-setting performances from junior Abby Conzemius (Chanhassen, Minn./Minnetonka), the Wildcats finished with a 36-hole team score of 622 (+46) to better the previous mark by 19 strokes. For her efforts toward the team's success, Conzemius has been named the Wildcat Athlete of the Week.Â
On the opening day of play, Conzemius shot the third-best score on the day finishing just one over par with a 73 (+2). Her score was a new career-best and program record for the two-time Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) all-conference selection who bettered her previous record by three strokes for an 18-hole score. Saturday, the Wildcats carded a 306 (+18) that was a new program-best for a single round.
Sunday, Conzemius followed up her strong opening day perormance with a score of 79 (+7) to finish the tournament with another new school record score of 152 (+8) for 36-holes. Her score was two strokes better than her previous program-best and helped her finish fifth in the field for all-tournament honors. The Wildcats recorded the third-best team score in program history with a 316 (+28) on day two.Â
This season, Conzemius is leading the Wildcats with a remarkable 78.5 strokes per round average. With her fifth-place finish, she now has six top-five finishes in her career.Â
Conzemius and the remainder of the red-hot Wildcats return to action this Saturday for the two-day Division III Classic hosted by Carleton College at the Jewel Golf Club in Lake City, Minnesota.Â
