The St. Catherine University track and field team has come to expect big performances from Shakeela Wells-Johnson (St. Paul, Minn./Harding) who has made an impact for the team in each meet this season. And the final week before the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) proved to be no exception for the sophmore who broke her own school record highlighting her week and earning her Wildcat Athlete of the Week honors.

Wells-Johnson started off her two-meet week in impressive fashion as she broke her own school record in the 100-meter hurdles at the University of St. Thomas Tommie Twlight meet Wednesday. In the prelims, she set a new record with a time of 15.18 before setting it again in the finals with a time of 15.02. She placed third in the event behind Division I and unattached competitors.

Saturday, Wells-Johnson was again solid for the Wildcats in both 100-meter spring events. In the 100-meter dash, she easily took first with a time of 12.32. Then, she ran the fastest time in prelims in the 100-meter hurdles with atime of 15.09 which was the second-best on the day after she did not compete in finals. The sprinter also anchored both of the Wildcats' 4 x 100-meter relay sqauds that clocked 51.17 and 51.53, respectively, Wednesday adn Saturday.

Wells-Johnson still owns the top 100-meter dash time in the MIAC this season with a clocking of 12.15. Her time is also ranked in the top 30 nationally. Her new 100-meter hurdle time of 15.02 is also second-fastest in the MIAC this year.
