It's hard to imagnie that Kristina Poss (Shoreview, Minn.) could have had a better four years as a three-sport student-athlete during her four years at St. Cathrine University. Not only does she hold some of the top performances in school history in both cross country and track and field, but she has been involved in just about every organization on campus and has been a higher achiever in the classroom. And in her final week of as a student-athlete, the senior earned one of the top academic honors in being named one of the 2014 class valedictorians and finishing with the best track performance of her career. For her impressive week, Poss has been named the Wildcat Athlete of the Week.
In her final appearance at the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Outdoor Championships, Poss turned in two impressive races to help the Wildcats finish the 2014 season on a high note. On the opening day of competition, Poss earned All-MIAC Honorable Mention when she finished sixth in the 10,000-meter run. The decorated St. Kate's distance runner bettered her No. 3 all-time time by nearly 35 seconds when she finished in 38:47.14 for her first point-scoring performance of her career in track and field. This was Poss' top track finish during her four years as a Wildcat.
With little time to rest, Poss turned around to compete in the 3,000-meter steeplechase where she finished just out of scoring position in ninth place. Her time of 11:56.22 was nearly a 10-second PR for the senior and reamins No. 3 all-time at St. Kate's in the event. With this performance, Poss compiled her best outing ni for years at a MIAC Championship.
Poss ends her career with with the fifth-best time in St. Kate's cross country history. She also ranks in the top-five all-time in two indoor track events (3,000-meter run, 5,000-meter run) and two outdoor events (10,000-meter run, 3,000-meter steeplechase). Poss has also twice earned Academic All-MIAC honors, has been a member of the dean's list and has been an involved member of the Wildcat Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (WSAAC).
