The St. Catherine University softball team concluded its season with a huge 10-0 win in five innings over the University of Northwestern-St. Paul Wednesday at the West St. Paul Dome. Not only did the year end in a big way for the team, but senior Alyssa Luedtke (Spring Lake Park, Minn.) was a huge contributor in the win to end her storied career on a high note. For her performance, Luedtke has been named the Wildcat Athlete of the Week.
The three-player senior class was huge in the Wildcats victory accounting for six hits and five of the team's 10 runs against the Eagles. Luedtke went 2-for-2 at the plate, scored twice and picked up a sacrifice hit to end her the season as the Wildcat leader in hits (31) and runs (17). She finished the year second with a .320 average and a team-best seven stolen bases.
Luedtke ends her four-year collegiate career as one of the most decorated softball players in St. Kate's history. She is the all-time career leader in hits (185), batting average (.400), at bats (463), runs (97) and triples (10). Her 53 RBI rank seventh all-time, while her 140 games played is fourth. The outfielder finished with a .958 fielding percentage and owns single-season records from 2012 for hits (63) and average (.467). Luedtke was three times named All-MIAC and twice NFCA All-Region Second Team. She was also a member of the 2013 MIAC All-Tournament team and twice Academic All-American.
