Though the St. Catherine University basketball team came out on the losing end in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) this week, LaShay Holt (Minneapolis, Minn.) put together one of her best week's of the season with her third double-double of the year against Hamline University Wednesday and a career-high scoring performance Saturday against Concordia College. For her big week, Holt has been named the Wildcat Athlete of the Week for the second time this season.Â
In the Wildcats' three games this week, Holt was above her season average in every category. Most impressive, she averaged 17 points per game (ppg.) – more than her season 13 ppg. that ranks 13th in the MIAC this season – and 7.7 rebounds per game. She also was strong defensively averaging four steals per game.Â
Monday, Holt went 3-for-5 from beyond the arc to help the Wildcats to program record 14-made 3-pointers against St. Olaf College. She was good for a team-high 15 points, six rebounds and a steal. She turned around for another impressive performance Wednesday against Hamline as she recorded her third double-double of her rookie season with 10 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. She also added to her defensive efforts with a team-best four steals.Â
Holt's shining moment of the week, though, came as she led the Wildcats to an impressive second half against Concordia in which they matched the Cobbers point-for-point at 45-45 in the final 20 minutes. She scored 19 points in the half to finish the game with a career-high scoring performance of 26 points. The first-year went 10-of-20 from the field, had a team-high five rebounds and career-best numbers in assists (5) and steals (7). This season, her 6.7 rebounds per game rank 10th in the MIAC and her 2.1 steals per game is sixth.Â
Holt and the Wildcats will return to the court Wednesday as they head south to take on league-leading Saint Mary's University. Tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the SMU Gym in Winona, Minn.Â
