Just one day after the St. Catherine University swimming record in the 200 Butterfly was broken, another school record came crashing down at the Grinnell College Invitational, Saturday in Grinnell, Iowa. Instead of another swimming mark though, it was a diving record that came down thanks to a spectacular performance from sophomore diver Alivia Bavier (Circle Pines, Minn.). For her record-breaking weekend, Bavier has been named the Wildcat Athlete of the Week.
After taking third-place in the 1-meter diving event on Friday evening at Grinnell, Bavier returned to the board and turned in her best 3-meter 11-dive performance as a Wildcat with a score of 442.80. Bavier's score shattered Sarah Moody's previous record of 414.45 and helped Bavier edge out Macalester All-Conference diver Renee Jordan by 2.95 points for first-place.
Bavier also turned in a strong third-place performance on the 1-meter board Friday evening with a score of 355.10 points. Her scores in both events helped the Wildcats to a sixth-place team finish out of 11 teams at the Grinnell Inviational.
Bavier and the Wildcats return to action in a dual against Macalester and Augsburg, Friday night in the Butler Center at 6 p.m. The Butler Center will also play host to the St. Kate's Invite, Saturday afternoon.
