After sitting out most of the first half of the 2012-13 basketball season due to injury, Mary Neumann (Dultuh, Minn.) has proven to be a valuable asset for the Wildcats since returning to the court after the holiday break. The sophomore has recorded double-digit points in all three games since her return and had her first colelgiate double-double game in a close conference loss to the College of Saint Benedict, Saturday. Her outstanding performances have earned her Wildcat Athlete of the Week honors.
Neumann returned for the Wildcats in a non-conference contest against Nebraska Wesleyan University on Dec. 29., and proved she hadn't missed a step. She went 4-for-5 from the floor and led the team with 12 points.
The Wildcats returned to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) play against Augsburg, Wednesday, in a game that Neumann put up the second-highest point total for the Wildcats with 10 points. She also was 2-for-5 from 3-point range and had three steals.
Her best was yet to come, though, as Neumann knocked down 3-of-4 shots from behind the arc en-route to her 11-point, 10-rebound double-double performance on the road against the Blazers. After the Wildcats found themselves down 11 heading into the half, Neumann opened up the first three minutes of the second half with five points to cut the Blazer lead to five before the Blazers pulled away late for the win.
Neumann and the Wildcats return to the court at Hamline University, tonight at 7:30 p.m., for another tough MIAC contest.
