After taking three weeks off from competition, the St. Catherine University swimming and diving team made a big splash this weekend, not only by taking fourth-place, but by breaking records in the process. As the Wildcats' most dominant swimmer so far in 2012-13 and Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Champion in 2012, it's no surprise that Steffanie Jurusik (Starkville, Miss.) again led the way for the Wildcats at the St. Thomas Invite. For her strong performances, Jurusik has earned Wildcat Athlete of the Week honors.
In her specialty event, the 200 Individual Medley, Jurusik not only broke her own meet record on Saturday, but also set a pool record with a time of 2:14.16 to bring in a first-place finish for the Wildcats. She also racked up big points for the Wildcats with two second-place finishes in the 100 and 200 Backstroke events. The senior also swam on the third-place 800 Freestyle Relay team that turned in a time of 8:20.89, as well as the fourth-place 400 Freestyle Relay team.
Jurusik and the the rest of the Wildcat swimmers and divers take a break from competition for the holiday season, but will return to action against the College of Saint Benedict on Jan. 5, 2013, as part of the team's annual winter break training trip.
