The Wildcat Athlete-of-the-Week honor takes a different approach this week as the honoree is being recognized not only for her athletic achievements, but her academic excellence and co-curricular pursuits for the last four years. Senior soccer player Liesl Wolf (Minnetonka, Minn.) was named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-District first-team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), Thursday. For earning such a distinguished award, Wolf has been named the Wildcat Athlete of the Week.
The Academic All-District honor recognizes student-athletes who have top athletic and academic performances at their respective institutions. Individuals must maintain at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (GPA) and play a significant role as a member of his or her team. Wolf is the only player from a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) women's team to be named to the 11-player District 6 team made up of Division III schools from Minnesota, Michigan and Wisconsin.
In 2012, Wolf finished seventh in the MIAC in assists (6) and was fourth on the team in total points (8) as a defender. She finishes her career as a Wildcat with three goals, seven assists and 13 points. She was an integral part of a spectacular turnaround season for Wildcat soccer in which the team improved to 9-8 after finishing 1-17 a year ago. Wolf has also earned distinguished leadership awards from St. Catherine, holds the communciations director position for the Minnesota Student Nurses Association and traveled to Haiti to visit Opus Prize finalists.
Wolf will be considered for Academic All-America honors, which will be announced later this month.
