The Wildcat soccer team had just one game this week, but they made it count in a big way as they defeated Saint Mary's 2-0 on a rainy Saturday afternoon to hold on to a chance at making the MIAC playoffs. For her huge contribution to the win, Sarah Anderson (Marshalltown, Iowa) has been named the Wildcat Athlete of the Week.
Just five minutes into the first half of the game, Anderson put the Wildcats on the board as she headed in a ball off a free kick from senior defender Liesl Wolf (Minnestonka, Minn.). The goal was Anderson's first of the season and first as a Wildcat. The defender wasn't done, though. She scored the game's only other goal, again from Wolf. This time, Anderson put in a ball off a free kick early in the second half.
Anderson's two-goal game brings her total season points to four, which is the fifth most for the Wildcats. Her two goals is the fourth-highest total on the team. Anderson and the Wildcats return to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) play, Wednesday, as they travel to Moorhead, Minn., to take on the league-leading Concordia Cobbers for a 4 p.m., contest.
