Each Wednesday throughout the summer, the St. Catherine University athletics department will countdown the top Wildcat victories from the last year in the Top 10 Victories of 2015-16.
Over the past several seasons, the St. Catherine University hockey team has established itself as one of the toughest teams to beat in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC). Although the team got off to a rough start, the Wildcats closed the 2015-16 season by winning five of their last eight games thanks in large part to the outstanding play of sophomore goalie
Kristen Pechacek (Park Falls, Wis. / Chequamegon). Pechacek had a historical year in goal for St. Kate's, anchoring the top penalty kill in the nation, and was named both All-MIAC and second team All-America for her efforts.
Pechacek was statistically the best goalie in the MIAC during her history 2015-16 season, which led to her All-Conference and All-America honors. In 13 games and 749:58 minutes of play, Pechacek posted a 4-5-4 record with all of her wins coming against MIAC opponents. She led the MIAC with a .960 save percentage, 1.36 goals against average (GAA), and was fifth in the conference with 429 saves. Pechacek now holds the school record in each of those categories and is tied for second all-time in both career and single season shutouts.
Compared to other Division III goalies, Pechacek concluded the year as one of the top in the nation. She finished the season ranked No. 2 in the country in save percentage and No. 9 in GAA.
Members of the CCM All-American Ice Hockey Teams are selected by members of the AHCA and the award is sponsored by CCM Hockey. Pechacek was one of two MIAC players to be named All-American this season and one of 12 representatives from the West Region. Pechacek was also the first Wildcat to be honored as an All-American since Michaela Michaelson was honored in 2010 and 2011.
