Having already clinched a MIAC Playoff berth, the Wildcat hockey team continued their successful season by coming back from a 1-0 deficit to tie St. Thomas 1-1 Saturday night at Ridder Arena.
After St. Thomas took a 1-0 lead early in the second period, St. Kate’s Meghan Lange tied the score midway through the third period, pushing in a rising shot off of a pass from Jessica Feltes. Despite each team creating scoring opportunities at the end of the third period and in overtime, neither team was able to overcome solid goaltending to put in a winning goal. SCU goaltender Mel Gerten turned away 40 shots on the night.
The tie closes a great weekend of hockey for the Wildcats. Coach Brad Marshall said, “It was a good weekend for us. Tonight we kept working hard and it translated into getting 3 of 4 points in the St. Thomas series. Now the players get a day off, then we will be focusing on St. Ben’s.”
The Wildcats’ record now stands at 15-4-2 overall, 11-3-2 in the MIAC. They are 1 point back from Gustavus for a share of the MIAC lead.
St. Kate’s hosts St. Benedict on Friday, February 26th at 7:00 pm at the VMCC in Inver Grove Heights.
