Volleyball defeats Augsburg 3-1

Brittni Wangerin
The Wildcats continued their winning ways on their home court Saturday afternoon, handing conference foe Augsburg a 3-1 defeat.  The Wildcats are now 4-0 in home games, and with two home games left to close out the season, the Wildcats are in position to finish the year on a win streak.  With the victory over Augsburg, the Wildcats improved to 4-5 in MIAC play and 7-19 overall.  The Auggies fell to 5-5 in the MIAC, 15-13 overall.

St. Kate's made quick work of the Auggies in the first set, with a 25-18 victory.  The Wildcats let down their guard in set two, as Augsburg made quick work in a 25-9 win.  Realizing that Augsburg would not go easily, the Wildcats picked up the intensity for the third set and won handily, 25-10.  After building a 19-14 lead in the fourth set, Augsburg went on a short run, but with Brittni Wangerin serving the Wildcats ran off five straight points to get to 24-18, and got the final point moments later on a kill by Wangerin.

The Wildcats showed their resiliency today and head into their last two conference matches with confidence.  Stephanie Meschke and Wangerin both had nine kills, and Racquel Reker added five kills while hitting .400.  Nicole Neumann and Callie Teigen led the way defensively with 23 and 14 digs, respectively.

The Wildcats return home on Wednesday at 7 pm to face St. Mary's, before concluding regular season play against Macalester on Saturday October 30 at 3 pm.
