One day after stopping #8 Gustavus' seven game win streak, the Wildcat hockey team lost 3-1 to Gustavus Adolphus College on Saturday afternoon at Ridder Arena. With the loss, SCU split the season series with the Gusties.
Gustavus got on the scoreboard first, capitalizing on a power play opportunity in the first period.
The Gusties then put in two goals early in the second period to take a 3-0 lead.
St. Kate’s Katie Lawler scored the Wildcats’ lone goal at 5:14 in the third period, taking a pass from Kayla Clafton down the ice and quickly putting it past the goaltender’s far shoulder. Unfortunately, the Wildcats were not able to mount the late-game comeback.
Despite the loss, St. Kate’s remains in second place in the MIAC with a record of 7-3-0, 11-4-0 overall.
Coach Marshall noted that, "We didn't play with the level of intensity we needed today, and against a team like Gustavus they can pin you down if you aren't moving your feet. That slow start hurt us today, but after this weekend we know we can play with anyone. Now we just have to focus on Bethel coming up, and hopefully we put two 60 minute games together next weekend."
The Wildcats look to get back to their winning ways when they travel to Bethel on February 5th. They return home to host Bethel the following day, Saturday, February 6th at 7:00 pm at Ridder Arena.
