Volleyball wins third straight

Megan Ahlbrecht
The St. Kate's volleyball team won their third straight game, defeating Bethel University 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 22-25, 25-20) to improve to 4-2 in MIAC play and 14-7 overall.

Megan Ahlbrecht and Brittni Wangerin led the Wildcats with 13 kills each. Maria Hoffman and Kayla Sis reached double digits as well with 12 and 11 kills, respectively.

Nina Lindquist continued her impressive freshman season. The rookie Wildcats setter picked up 52 assists and 20 digs in the four sets.

One sign of the team's hustle was that Lindquist was just one of five Wildcats to record double digits in digs. Nicole Neumann led the team in that category with 28 followed by Lindquist's 20, Nicole Pothen added 18 and Hoffman and Callie Teigen each had 13 digs.

All four sets were closely contested, but the first set established a pattern that was repeated throughout  the night. The teams stayed within a few points of each other virtually the entire afternoon, but in each game it was the Wildcats who came up with the big points when they needed them to pick up the wins.

The Wildcats, who have now won nine of their last eleven games, face St. Mary's University on Wednesday October 14 in Winona.
