Mary Giorgi

Mary (Sweeney) Giorgi enters her tenth season as the Wildcats Head Golf Coach in the fall of 2024. Giorgi took over the Wildcat program in November of 2015 following a successful collegiate playing career at NCAA Division I University of Idaho. She was a four-year scholarship athlete on the women's golf team that consistently placed near the top of the Western Athletics Conference (WAC) and Big Sky Conference.

In the fall of 2019, Giorgi coached the Wildcats to their best fall in program history. The Wildcats' finished second at the MIAC Conference Championship and finished first in the conference in overall season average. Each member of the team carded their collegiate low round in the fall of 2019 led by rookie Sydney Brown who was named the St. Kate's Athletics Rookie of the Year and finished fourth in the MIAC as first-year. Giorgi had four members of the 2019-20 roster earn MIAC All-Conference honors and led the team to their best overall Division III ranking of No. 12 in the nation. Six members of Giorgi's 2019-20 roster earned MIAC Academic All-Conference honors and five were named to the WGCA Academic All-American team.

In her fourth season as head coach of the Wildcats, Giorgi was named to the NCAA Division III National Golf Committee. Giorgi will serve a two year term ceasing in 2020.

In her first full season as head coach, Giorgi led the Wildcats to their first ever MIAC Championship, earning the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship. St. Kate's carded a 12th place finish in its first appearance at the national meet and had two individuals finish in the top-50. The Wildcats also found plenty of success as individuals, as multiple student-athletes earned All-MIAC, All-Region, and All-Region Scholar honors at the end of the season.

During the fall of 2015, Giorgi served as an assistant at Augsburg College where she helped lead the women's team to a ninth-place finish at the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Championships in October. The Auggies improved by 14 strokes from the previous season for their best finish in three years at the conference tournament. The Auggie men's team also won its first MIAC title in 20 years at this year's championship event. In her role as assistant coach, Giorgi assisted with overall practice and team management, coaching at competitions and recruiting.

In addition to her coaching experience at Augsburg, Giorgi has previously worked with the Minnesota Women's Golf Association to lead youth clinics teaching fundamental golf skills and course management. Giorgi also brings experience working as a technical recruiter and marketing assistant in the professional world.

Before entering the world of collegiate golf, Giorgi had a very successful junior golf career. In 2010, Giorgi was named the Minnesota Junior PGA Player of the Year and was a three-time All-State player at Woodbury High School. She was the 2011 Minnesota Class AAA individual runner up and helped Woodbury win a Class AAA team state championship in 2008.

In May 2015, Giorgi graduated from Idaho with a Bachelor of Science in advertising. She was a deans list student and member of the Vandals' Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). Giorgi was also recognized with the National Golf Coaches  Association (NGCA) academic award for maintaining a 3.5 cumulative GPA.
