ST. PAUL, Minn. – The St. Catherine University athletics department has announced the hiring of Nate Medic as the first head coach for the newly established women's lacrosse program, which is set to begin competition in spring 2028. The addition of lacrosse marks an exciting new chapter for St. Kate's, as the university continues to grow opportunities for student-athletes.

He brings valuable coaching experience, and we look forward to seeing him build a competitive program and a strong foundation for long-term success."

Medic will lead all aspects of the program's development, including recruiting the first team, building the program's culture, creating practice and competition standards, and preparing the Wildcats for their inaugural season.

Medic brings a strong background in collegiate, high school, and club lacrosse to the program. He comes to St. Kate's after a successful tenure at George Mason University, an NCAA Division I program, where he served as an assistant coach for the women's lacrosse team. In his role, Medic worked primarily with the Patriots' goalies, transition play, and defensive units.

He was named defensive coordinator for the 2024 season, helping George Mason open the year with a program-record five consecutive wins and earn its first Atlantic 10 Tournament appearance since 2019.

Prior to George Mason, Medic served as the head girls' lacrosse coach at Colonial Forge High School, where he led the program to a 60-12 record, two district championships, two region championships, and a 2021 Virginia 6A State Runner-Up finish. His coaching honors include two District Coach of the Year awards, three Region Coach of the Year selections, and FLS All-Area Coach of the Year recognition.

Medic graduated from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science in Education, with a focus on health and physical education. At Slippery Rock, he was a three-year member of the men's club ice hockey team after beginning his collegiate career at Bethany College, where he was a member of the men's lacrosse team.

The new lacrosse program will begin recruiting immediately, with competition scheduled to begin in spring 2028. More information on the inaugural season, roster, and additional program details will be announced at a later date.
