ROCHESTER, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University softball team split wins on Saturday in Rochester claiming a 6-5 win over the University of Wisconsin-Stout before falling to University of Northwestern-St. Paul 8-3.
GAME ONE | St. Catherine 6, Wis. Stout 5
St. Kate's staged a dramatic comeback to edge out Wis.-Stout 6-5. Wis.-Stout took an early lead, scoring three runs in the first inning and adding two more in the second. The Wildcats responded in the fourth with three runs, cutting the deficit to 5-3. A fifth-inning RBI brought them within one, and in the bottom of the seventh, they completed the rally. A sacrifice fly tied the game before a walk-off infield single sealed the 6-5 victory.
Taylor Graf earned the win in the circle pitching five innings, striking out three while not allowing a run.
Sarah Christy started the game pitching two innings while striking out three of the 15 batters faced.
GAME TWO | Northwestern-St. Paul 8, St. Catherine 3
St. Kate's took an early lead with a sacrifice fly in the first and an RBI double in the second, but Northwestern responded with a two-run homer in the third to go ahead. Northwestern capitalized on defensive miscues in the fourth and fifth innings, extending their lead to 8-2. The Wildcats managed to add one more run in the sixth as Annie Cook drove in
Sydney Colbert reaching first on fielder's choice. The sixth inning attempt added one but St. Kate's couldn't rally in the seventh, falling 8-3.
Next up for the Wildcats is their annual trip to Florida for THE SPRING GAMES in Claremont. St. Kate's opens play on Monday, March 10 with games against Saint Mary's College and North Park University. In total, St. Kate's will play eight games over five days.
