NORTHFIELD, Minn. —The Wildcats dropped a tough game on the road on Saturday falling to the St. Olaf 63-55. Both teams' shooters struggled at the outset, and the score was tied just 7-7 with two minutes left in the first quarter. St. Kate's then closed out the quarter with an 8-0 run to take the lead. In the second, they quickly pushed the lead to 13, before letting St. Olaf back in the game by committing too many turnovers—8 in the quarter. Still, at the half, the Wildcats were up 30-22.
The third quarter was all Olaf. St. Kate's shooters went as cold as January on the tundra, shooting only 13% for the quarter, and the Oles started the half with a 16-0 run. The outlook brightened when the Wildcats hit back-to-back threes, to make it a 2-point game. But a St. Olaf push at the the end of the third and start of the fourth had the Oles up by nine points with about nine minutes to play.
When the Wildcats pulled within 5 points with four minutes left, they started applying more full court pressure. Things got interesting when
Greta Schimnowski hit her fourth three-pointer of the game with 2:47 remaining to make it a four-point deficit. But St. Olaf answered on their next possession with a 3-pointer of their own to put the lead back to 7. Excellent free-throw shooting by the Oles (21of 23; 91%) helped them close out the game down the stretch.
Sam Orth led Wildcat scorers with 19, and Schimnowski was next with 14 points (shooting 4 of 8 beyond the arc). St. Kate's plays next at St. Scholastica on Wednesday the 26
