Box Score 2 ST. PAUL, Minn. -- St. Catherine softball completed a series split with the University of St. Thomas on Sunday afternoon falling in game one 5-4 to come back in game two with a 5-2 victory. The Wildcats improve to 17-9 overall and 12-4 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) with three conference doubleheaders remaining on the schedule.
GAME ONE | St. Catherine 4, St. Thomas 5
The Tommies were on the board first in the bottom of the second inning bringing one run in Kaitlín Boyles' two-run single to center field gave St. Kate's the lead in the top of the third driving
Taylor Brunn and
Julia Azure home before St. Thomas answered with a two-run homer in the bottom of the inning.
In the top of the fourth inning, Azure's single brought
Alyssa Montero in before scoring off
Alyssa Wicks single out to left field taking the one-run lead again. The Tommies added the tying run in the bottom of the fifth scoring off a wild pitch and added the winning run with a walk-off single to right field.
Kathryn Proper started the game for the Wildcats throwing two innings giving up three runs.
Annabelle Schutte entered the game in the third inning allowing two runs with one strikeout.
GAME TWO | St. Catherine 5, St. Thomas 2
Schutte tossed a complete game recording the win in game two giving up six hits for two runs and one strikeout.
Alex Ehde put the Wildcats on the board first in game two with a two-run home run in the top of the second inning bringing Boyles across the plate. The Tommies followed up with what would be their only runs of the game adding two in the bottom of the inning.
Ehde scored the Wildcats' third run of the game off a double from
Alyssa Montero in the top of the fourth for the 3-2 lead with three to play. The last two runs of the day came from Boyles and Huepfel scoring a pair of unearned runs in the top of the fifth inning for 5-2 final.
The Wildcats return home on Saturday, May 1 with a doubleheader against St. Olaf College with the first pitch set for 1 pm. They will travel to Hamline University on Sunday, May 2 for a 1/3 pm doubleheader before closing out the regular season at home on Tuesday, May 4 against Macalester at 3:30 pm and 5:30 pm.
