DUBUQUE, Iowa -- The St. Catherine softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to No. 17 the University of Dubuque on Monday evening. The Wildcats lost 3-2 in nine innings and 2-1 to move to 5-5 on the season.
GAME ONE - St. Catherine 2, No. 17 Dubuque 3 (9 innings)
Kathryn Proper suffered the loss in game one, allowing two runs on three hits in 2.1 innings. Proper tallied one strikeout after entering the circle for
Annabelle Schutte in the seventh inning. Schutte allowed one run on five hits and one strikeout.
The Spartans scored first in the top of the fifth off an error in the left field. St. Kate's knotted it up with
Lindsay Burr crossing the plate as a result of
Britney Meier's sacrifice hit to right field. St. Kate's took a one-run lead in the top of 8th with Alex Edhe at-bat bringing
Taylor Brunn in. Dubuque closed out the game with two runs in the bottom of the eighth and ninth innings for the 3-2 victory.
GAME TWO - St. Catherine 1, No. 17 Dubuque 2
Alyssa Montero started game two in the circle for St. Kate's pitching 1.2 innings allowing Duqubue to score an unearned run in the top of the second. Schutte relieved Montero pitching two innings giving up one run off of four hits with one strikeout. Proper closed out the final 2.1 innings for the Wildcats with zero hits and zero runs and adding two strikeouts.
Dubuque scored in the top of the second off of an error in left field to get on the scoreboard first in game two. The Spartans took the two-run lead off a single to right-center in the top of the fourth for their final run of the game. Brunn tallied the Wildcats' lone point of game two scoring an unearned run in the bottom of the sixth inning off of an error by Dubuque's first baseman.
St. Kate's returns to Iowa on Wednesday as they travel to Wartburg College for a doubleheader starting at 3 pm.
