Softball hosts Hamline in final games of regular season

ST. PAUL, MINN. – It turns out, fourth time really is the charm for the St. Catherine University softball time. After three postponements and three battles with Mother Nature, the Wildcats will finally take on the Hamline University Pipers in the final doubleheader of the regular season.

Tuesday's doubleheader will bring a close to the regular season and solidify the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) standings. Hamline already qualified for the MIAC postseason tournament as either the No. 1 or 2 seed, while St. Kate's is in with a win.

Live stats will be available for Tuesday afternoon's doubleheader and score updates will also be made on St. Kate's official Twitter page (@stkateswildcats).

Here are the five things to know before Tuesday's huge MIAC doubleheader:

No. 3 – If they win at least one game, the Wildcats will be the No. 3 seed in the conference tournament this upcoming weekend. However, if St. Kate's is swept by the Pipers, the Wildcats will finish in a tie for fourth with St. Olaf College and miss the playoffs by a game.

3rd – Sophomore third baseman Jenna George (Ellsworth, Wis. / Ellsworth) was named the MIAC Softball Player-of-the-Week for the third time this season Monday afternoon. George hit .500 in four games last week, helping St. Kate's post a 3-1 record against conference opponents and move into the top-4 in the MIAC standings. George's big day came on Saturday, when she went 5-5 in two games against Saint Ben's with a home run and two intentional walks.

No. 23 – Currently, junior ace Krista Flugstad (Bloomington, Minn. / Jefferson) has the 23rd lowest ERA in the country at 1.08 and the second lowest in the MIAC. She is also 31st in hits allowed per game (4.83).

.61 – Junior second baseman Claire Woebke (Bloomington, Minn. / Jefferson) leads the nation in sacrifice hits (23) and sacrifice hit per game (.61) this season.

28 – As a team, St. Kate's ranks in the top-50 in the national in home runs per game and team fielding percentage. The Wildcats average .64 home runs per game this season and hold a tema fielding percentage of .968.
