ST. PAUL, Minn.---The end of winter brings new changes and faces to every place, including the St. Catherine University athletics department, where Kelsey Whaley will become the school's interim sports information director.
St. Kate's Athletics Director
Eric Stacey announced the change on Friday, as Whaley will be taking over for current Sports Information Director
Sara Eisenhauer, who recently accepted the position as the assistant commissioner of the neighboring Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) .
"I'm incredibly honored and excited for this opportunity," Whaley said. "The MIAC has always been like a second home to me, and I can't wait to learn from Sara and begin working as the interim SID at St. Kate's."
Prior to joining the St. Kate's staff, Whaley interned at the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC), of which St. Kate's is a member. During her time at the conference office, Whaley worked alongside Executive Director Dan McKane and Assistant Commissioner Matt Higgins in sports information, championships, conference awards and event management. She also served as Co-Advisor for the conference's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and assisted coaches and administrators with various tasks, such as film exchange, sportsmanship, scheduling, grants, compliance, and governance.
"The MIAC is very proud of Kelsey for being selected as the interim SID at St. Catherine's," said McKane. "Her dedication to quality work and studying the profession has proven to be a valuable asset with all organizations she has been a part of."
Whaley also has further experience in sports information, athletic communication, and athletic administration from her time at St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin. Whaley studied Communications and Media Studies at the college and assisted current sports information director Dan Lukes with statistics, announcing, creating media content and communicating with coaches and student-athletes. In the summer of 2013, Whaley studied at the Washington Media Institute in Washington, D.C. and interned with SiriusXM Radio's College Sports Station.
Whaley is also extremely familiar with the MIAC and its institutions, including St. Kate's. Her father Nick Whaley was the head baseball coach at Saint Mary's University in Winona, Minnesota, for 12 seasons (1997-2008) before rejoining the staff as an assistant in 2013.
