Wildcats settle for 0-0 tie in game two of MIAC series with Bethel

After ending a a five-game Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) winless steak in exciting fashion Friday night, the St. Catherine University hockey team hoped to come up with similar effort for game two against a strong offensive Bethel University squad. Despite several opportunities to score, the Wildcats claimed three of four-possible conference points for the weekend as they settled for a 0-0 tie with the Royals Saturday afternoon at the Schwann's Super Rink in Blaine, Minnesota.

"I think we were a step slower than last night," said Head Coach Brad Marshall. "We were not as crisp with our passing and we need more out of our power play than what we got today. This was definitely a game full of the 'should haves' and 'could haves.'"

For the second time this season, the Wildcats played to a scoreless tie, despite both teams having plenty of power play opportunities including a 5-on-3 advantage in favor ofthe Wildcats in the third period. Unfortunately, the Wildcats turned in just 21 shots as opposed to 38 in favor of the Wildcats.

After the first period of play, the Royals dominated the scoreboard in shots with a 10-4 advantage. In the second, the Wildcats came a little bit closer tallying eight shots, but Abbi White (Wyoming, Minn./Forest Lake) had 11 saves to keep the Wildcats in the game. In the third, the Royals took a 12-8 advantage, but White and the Wildcat defense stood strong to force overtime.

In overtime, the Wildcats found themselves shorthanded with 1:15 remaining in the game. However, White came up with five strong saves in the extra minutes to help the Wildcats settle for their fifth tie of the season. The sophomore goalie finished with a career-high 38 saves and improved to 2-2-4 in the season. She remains atop the MIAC goalie leaders for both goals against average (1.09) and save percentage (.959).

After leading the Wildcats to a victory with a hat trick Friday night, Megan Killmer (Savage, Minn./Burnsville) led the Wildcats offensively with three shots on goal, while rnadi fabsits (Tinley Park, Ill./Victor J. Andrew) also had three.

With the tie, the Wildcats improve to 5-8-5 on the season and 3-5-4 in the MIAC. They return to action against league-leading Gustavus Adolphus College Friday night for a home game at 7 p.m. at Drake Arena in St. Paul.
