Box Score 2 For the last four years,
Alyssa Luedtke (Spring Lake Park, Minn.) has been rewriting the St. Catherine University softball history books setting new single-season and career records in multiple categories. And she was at it again when she set a new record for career runs as she scored twice in the Wildcats' 9-1 and 6-3 Minnesota Intercollegiate Atheltic Conference (MIAC) losses to St. Olaf College Friday afternoon in Northfield, Minn.
The three-time All-MIAC selection brought her career total to 93 runs surpassing Jessica Kniefel's previous record 92 career runs. Luedtke set a new school record for hits last season with her total now at 173 after picking up a hit Friday in the Wildcats' extra-inning loss in game two. The senior outfielder also holds the career record for triples (10) and holds single-season records for hits (63) and batting average (.467) set in 2012.
In the opening game, the Wildcats held the Oles to a 2-0 lead through four innings. But in search of their first win of the season, the Oles erupted for four runs in the fifth and three in the sixth to end the Wildcats' chance for a comeback. Luedtke scored the lone run in the first game when
Lindsey Klein (Shoreview, Minn.) picked up her first of three hits on the day to send the senior across the plate for career run No. 92 to tie the record.
The Oles opened up the scoring in the second game with two runs in the second inning and one more in the fifth. It again appeared as though the Wildcats might run out of innings to mount a comeback, but the seventh inning proved to be their biggest offensive inning of the day.
Kaitlyn Luedtke (Spring Lake Park, Minn.) opened up the inning with a single before
Alyssa Luedtke followed that up with a hit to put two runs on base. An Ole error put Klein on base and allowed
Kaitlyn Luedtke to score the first Wildcat run of the game.
After
Jessica Tyminski (Champlin, Minn.) was walked, the Oles made a pitching change and then committed another error in allowing
Alyssa McKee (Spring Lake Park, Minn.) to reach base and pick up an RBI on
Alyssa Luedtke's record-setting second run of the day.
Larrissa Karl (Buffalo Lake, Minn.) then tallied her second hit of the day to send Klein across home plate for the game-tying run.
The Wildcats then held off the Ole offense in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings. But that's as long as they would be able to go as Becca Walz hit a walk-off three-run homer to end the Wildcats' chance at a MIAC win Friday.
With the loss the Wildcats fall 5-15 to overall and 3-5 in the MIAC. The Wildcats are scheduled for a home doubleheader against Carleton College Saturday morning at 10 a.m. at St. Kate's. The team will also honor parents and alumnae between games.
